Gwent youngsters help Welsh badminton team to victory
Gwent’s youth badminton talent helped propel Wales to a great performance in the Under 13 Celtic Challenge, which was held in the Welsh Institute of Sport in Cardiff.
A supurb opening victory against Scotland’s Lothian region by a 13-2 scoreline was followed by another fine victory against the Irish region of Leinster with a similarly impressive 11-4 result.
This set up a nailbiting final match against pre tournament favourites Ulster.
After an exciting and tenacious contest, Wales emerged with a tremendous 11-4 victory retaining the trophy won the previous year in Dublin.
Well Done to the 4 players included, Kelly Saunders, Morgan Williams, Katie Whiteman and Tomas Whiteman

New website introduced to clubs
The Gwent Badminton 2010 fixtures meeting was held last night and I used the opportunity to introduce the new website to the clubs. From what I heard the general consensus was positive. Each club has access to the site to update their page when necessary and post news articles relevant to their club.
I also spoke to Pauline (fixtures secretary) about implementing the new league tables pages. We intend to have a meeting in early October and the tables should hopefully be updated on a regular basis from then on.
Looking forward to the new season at Newport Badminton Club
With the fixtures meeting happening tomorrow, the new 2010-2011 Gwent Badminton Season is not far away.
Here at Newport Badminton Club we are pleased to be entering 2 Mens teams, 1 Ladies team and 1 Mixed team into theGwent Badminton leagues this year.
Our Mixed A team won the 2nd division last year, however after losing a few ladies over the summer break, we are unable to field a Mixed B team even though we have a wealth of men. Hopefully we will find a few more ladies during the year and return with B team next year. The Ladies team unfortunately came bottom of division 1 last year, but not through any lack of effort.
Our Mens A team once again came 2nd in division 2 beating the eventual division winners along the way and hope for better fortune this year. The Mens B team also came 2nd (in division 3) narrowly missing out on promotion due to some defeats early on in the season.
The cup competition was a little disappointing as we lost to Oakdale in the second round.
